“Where the Wild Things Are,” “An Education” review : The New Yorker.

Are you planning to go yet? This book was not just a part of my childhood, it seemed we had a copy in every room. As far as  bedtime stories go, it was the favorite for years. Every teacher knows and loves this book. Plan on a full review from here once it comes out. From the New Yorker Review:

“He builds forts in his bedroom and an igloo in the front yard. He wants to be enclosed in his own imaginative space, but he also needs to burst out and tear around, and, as Max crashes through the house, Jonze’s camera, bounding up and down stairs, stays with him and brings us as close to a boy’s impetuousness and egotism as we’re likely to get in the movies. The sequence has non-stop momentum and a juggernaut impact.”

Can’t wait for the “juggernaut” effect.  How about you?

I’ve loved the book since I was a kid, as well, and can’t wait to see the movie. I’m a little nervous that it won’t live up to my expectations, but I’m glad about all the attention the book is now getting, after all these years. It adds another level of interest when I use it in class. When I do so I’ve found a couple great ebooks of activities very helpful at http://www.dedicatedteacher.com that are specifically for “Where the Wild Things Are”. Hope the movie’s as good as the book!

Thanks George. I saw it and I must say it wasn’t like the book. I give away a few things but mostly I just whine about it over at Blogcritics. Perhaps you’ll like it better than I did?

    Thanks again.
