How 3 Chairs Save Paper in my Classroom

The paperless classroom is my ideal. This is an idea I tried in attempt to work toward a paperless classroom (PLC). It still involves paper, I haven’t reached perfection yet.

chairs

The old way:
Assessment of 21 pages gets copied in 30 packets for 30 kids = 630 pages consumed

PLC way:
All you need is a group willing to follow directions, three chairs and 67% less paper than you needed the old way ;)

Total number of packets is divided by three by doing the following:
Pages 1-7 gets copied in 10 packets and set on a chair in an accessible area.
Pages 8-14 gets copied in 10 packets and set on a chair in an accessible area.
Pages 15-21 gets copied in 10 packets and set on a chair in an accessible area.

Total pages consumed=210

The kids get different packets putting answers on a separate personal answer sheet and when they finish exchange them at the 3 chairs. They should be coached to be careful their bubbled in answers match those of the packet they are on.  Let’s summarize with simple math:

Old way =   630 pages consumed
New way = 210 pages consumed
Savings  =  420 sheets/ 67%

Worked great for in my class.  I’d love to start more of a dialog about the important idea of a paperless classroom.
