Dealing with Divorced Parents

Parent conferences are tough enough when the parents are together.  When they’re divorced, or especially when they are divorcING, it can prove very complicated.  I have a student whose parents are at odds with each other and so I will be doing 2 conferences, one for each parent.  This is just something I do to meet the needs of my students.  I suppose it would be unmanageable if every kid in the class required it but they don’t.  I have heard some horror stories about parents going through divorce and what it does to the kids.  It seems this particular one in a way is compensated by trips to amusement parks and such but I can’t help but feel sorry for her.  I hipe she’ll be okay.  Feelings such as that are things I haven’t yet decided are liabilities or assets to teaching.
