Discomfort: Making it Work for You

This week I chose an uncomfortable topic … literally. I’ve been noticing this week how much we are creatures of habit and comfort. Nowhere is this more true than in my kids and students. We all seem to have been sold a bill of goods along the way that says the good life is 100% comfort. I address that misconception and even “dysfunction” in this week’s podcast. One technical note: I recorded this late Friday night, later than usual, and in my haste to get it done I neglected to put a warm reverb effect on my voice as I have been doing the past few weeks. If it sounds a bit tinny, never fear … I will go back to the reverb effect next week. Thanks for listening, have a great week!

It takes a discerning teacher to notice the little changes or insecurities that people have. The topic is really good.

Butterflies in the stomach: get the butterflies fly in formation. My teacher couldn’t tell when I had it. I was on stage for 6 years and finally when it came down to discomfort, no one expected it. And they could only say to you, “don’t be nervous”. But still it does not help to overcome the discomfort.

@Annie: Thank your for the compliment. I think you are right its going to stay with you but if you can learn to function and perform through it, you’ll be unstoppable!

That was a very thought-provoking podcast. It makes me wonder if human nature is designed to seek out being comfortable or if that is a product of our environment. It also begs the question of how we can practically not give into discomfort but use it to become successful.
