Focus in Blogging, Focus in Life

Whew! What a difference a day can make! I learned tons today, but mostly the power of focus. I know I talk about the direction of my blog a lot. Sorry if that is old to you . . . if you are interested in the processes I go through in that regard, keep reading. If not, hang in there, I’m sure I’ll have a good news commentary or something soon!

On my blog I am focusing on journaling. No more Earth shattering realizations that I am compelled to share with the world. I’m into talking about the sights sounds and silliness of being a 38 year old teacher father of three. What a relief to learn that AGAIN. When I am focused on what I want, the theme choices become easier, as do the plugins. In my case it’s a lot simpler now. I’m not into niche, I’m into focus. Niche sounds like you chipped a piece of wood off the boat to sail on and I want the whole boat!

If you have a particular interest, become that . . . I can only speak for myself.

This I know: DO NOT CHOOSE A NARROW TOPIC FOR YOUR BLOG JUST TO GET READERS. That’s a bad approach in my experience. I like what’s real in a blog and those are the ones I frequent. So, I think to myself tonight: Why not be real all the time? Focus rules. It makes everything have a place.

In my family, my teaching, my music, and my blog my goal is to find a defined focus on the macro and then every day.

I took the time to type this post before bed because it seemed like something others might benefit by hearing. But now I think I wrote it for myself to hear.

I’d like to elaborate further but my wife is talking to me and I need to listen (focus). At the same time, my daughter is pulling on my arm to play (focus). SO, the blog focus will have to go onto the cyber-space shelf. It’s been said if you aim at nothing you will surely hit your target. Now that my blog is focused, the biggest challenge I see is disciplining myself to do the important stuff of work and family and then making the time to fulfill the vision.

It all comes down to just letting your blog reflect who you are, I think, except those few niche blogs about a specific subject. And, many of us have several interests and loves and many of us have more narrowed interests. And — experimenting with our blogs to get it right for ourselves is an interesting process for people like me to watch.

I look forward to what you post next.
