Have a Snack Drawer in Your Classroom

This blog occasionally has an extra-curricular post or two. I’m not writing about a snack drawer for your kids, but rather for YOU. If you aren’t counting calories closely, I recommend doing a little shopping for a lot of stuff you’d find in a vending machine: candy bars, cheese and crackers, small chip bags, fruit bars, etc.

Smart and Final or Costco are great because you can buy in bulk and really save a lot. The next time you are in class and starving to death, at recess, you’ll be taken care of. You can even skip lunch those days you are frantic and forgot your lunch because you’ll have snacks to get you through. In theory, the snack drawer will lift your mood. If your mood is up, you’ll teach better and your kids will learn better. As I close this thought I just want to leave you with one warning:

Don’t ever let on to your kids about the snack drawer. They will guilt you until you pass a snack out to every kid.
