To win friends and influence people, we should be more simple and open to new connections.
Blogs are like people in that they emanate one or two things when you first meet them. When I meet someone I usually am curious what they do for a living and what they are passionate about. I feel the same way about blogs. I recently started mentoring a new friend named Jean and she is working very hard to get her ebay strategies business off the ground. I’ve had to step back and look at her blog from a newbie standpoint to give her the best feedback I can. We are working toward a successful blog business with a lot of readers and relevance. I think, therefore, it is important to be simple. If more people could keep everything simple, whether at meeting new people or at selling something like, for example, weight loss products I know they’d be more successful.
When it comes to meeting someone, aren’t you drawn to them right away when they are simple?
The other day I was in McDonald’s with my 2 girls and a guy in muddy boots and spurs was in front of me. He started asking me about my kids and before we knew it we were talking about bull riding. This guy struck me as such a simple fella. It drew me in right away and his boots and spurs (and mud) laid out very plainly who he was and what his passion was. It was enjoyable talking with him.
We should be less guarded about revealing our simple passions of life. Bumper stickers on cars, T-Shirts with print on them, and many other possible things can make us approachable. The same is true in marketing.
Since I know my readers are largely bloggers, I want to give you this tip: “Pillar Pages Increase Traffic.” These are simply pages that are on a given topic and they are heavily researched and heavily linked out from. If done right, they can provide a regular stream of hundreds of readers every day with minimal after-maintenance. Here’s an example. Try a pillar page and let me know how it worked out! You should see some more from me in the weeks and months to come.
