Did you ever work really hard at something only to find you’d actually lost ground toward the goal? That’s what happened to me today at the doctor’s office. The nurse put the cuff on and pumped only to tell me my blood pressure was higher than last time! And that is since I’ve been taking meds!
The doc prescribed me another med and gave me some exercise advice. The good news is that my cholesterol was actually ok. It was higher than average, but not in the danger zone. That’s amazing considering the stuff I eat.
I have to go back in 2 and 4 weeks to check my blood pressure and possibly increase the meds if needed.
At 38, I am getting really serious about my health. It is possible, he told me, for me to have a stroke with my blood pressure as high as it’s been.
If it were just me, I would probably just eat fruits and nuts and figure “you go when you go.”
But it’s not just me anymore. I got married 5 years ago and now I have 3 amazing kids who I want to be around for into my eighties, or even more if I am very fortunate. I guess the 30’s (especially the late) are the time when we start to imagine how long we have left, and how much quality of life we want to strive for in that short time.

Yup, we have more to live for now with kids! Take care, Damien!
Thanks S.A.M !!
You are right about the 30s being the time when many of begin to consider our own mortality. When I went to get some tests a few years ago, the doctor was wondering why a man of my age was doing so. I told him that it was simply a precautionary measure. Good luck on getting that BP down Damien.
Oops! In the first sentence, I meant to say "many of us".
Thanks Malcolm! Our music gives our age away ;)
