On Seeking and Finding Relaxation

Share

It occurred to me about a year ago that nothing was more important than my ability to relax. It had gotten to a point to where the concept was alien to me. I wasn’t stopping to read a book, to really enjoy my kids, to ponder my existence and the goals that lay before me. As a result I was becoming forgetful and my health was starting to take a dive. I decided to look into meditation and I found a great method called “The Relaxation Response” by Dr. Herbert Benson. I’ve made this a daily practice. Twice a day I meditate for 10-20 minutes. As a result, my head is clearer and I can focus on my goals. I have been more effective at achieving my goals since I started meditating. I know for some people it sounds like some hippie thing too “out there” and esoteric to take seriously.

The truth is however that people who meditate are clear headed thinkers and they have less mental and physical health problems. The more I read about meditation the more I want to spend time meditating. As I continue to seek optimum health in my life, I am using meditation as a pillar along with diet and exercise. I’m eager to go deeper into mediation and become a clearer headed person. Based on my experience thus far, I am headed in the right direction. But all this started with a desire to relax. Do you know how to relax? What is your method or format of seeking relaxation?

Actually, I don’t know how to relax. It’s just something I’ve never really done, and thus I don’t have a lot of skill at it. As an example I’d been stressing over something for the last 3 days, and thus I didn’t sleep. And I kept getting really angry over what I was dealing with. My wife said I needed to relax, but I just couldn’t. Got rid of that issue today, and I hope it helps me sleep, but even if it does I won’t sleep long because then it’s time to go after the next issue.

My life for 40 years; ugh! lol

Thanks for sharing that Mitch. I recommend taking 10 minutes twice a day to get alone somewhere and try a form of meditation. You may find it relaxing at first but I am 100% sure you will find it relaxing after you do it for a few days. I think you will find it helps you sleep better as well. There are many kinds of meditation you could try but I would recommend what i am doing now because it is simple. Good luck destressing man and thanks for stopping by dude! http://www.trancesolutions.com/free-hypnosis-downloads/ts-the-relaxation-response-herbert-benson.pdf

I have tried the 10 minute thing, but I can never get my brain to shut down in 10 minutes. It’s one reason I exhaust myself at night because if I don’t get to sleep within 5 minutes, I’m not sleeping for a while.
