As I entered the 20th note into WORD and printed it up on a student who just got in a fight, I was reminded of pateince. The parent of that child sees their kid just as I see my own: “Perfect and flawless.” Unfortunately both our kids have some issues that need working out.
Most every person has those, even teachers.
It is hard to have patience with repeat offenders. When I have told a kid through three long lectures and disciplined by taking away recess etc. Even still, after all that, they still fight. It may sound silly this would be so upsetting to a teacher. But when youa re in the thick of it and the kids are giving you as good as you can give all day long M-F, it does grate on your nerves. That’s when you have to step back and breathe.
The most successful career teachers are and will be the ones who learn to do that. It is easier said than done.
