Positive Talk in Metaphors not Similies

We compare ourselves to other people all the time and it’s seldom a good thing.  I might say: “His car is newer than mine, he probably pays less.”  OR You might say, “He has a bigger house than me and he bought in the recession so he got more than he paid for.”  The end result of talk like this is one person feeling up or down on the other.  How can that benefit anyone?

What we need to do is practice changing the way we talk about other people.  We should give everyone the benefit of the doubt and then some rope after that.  Also, we must change the way we talk to ourselves.  The goal is success right?  Well, if that’s the case: consider positive talk in metaphors instead of simlies.

A similie statement would be: My backyard is like a pool resort.  This is cool because it gets you thankful about your pool.  You think about how, in spite of the fact that your pool may have problems and you don’t have enough patio furniture, you still have a pretty good place to relax and recover before you go back to work.

A metaphor statement would be: My backyard IS a pool resort.  Now you are claiming success in your life.  You don’t just a have a pool you have a RESORT!  You can take this as whatever level you want as well: refrigerator=Buffet, etc. you fill in the blanks

As we view the objects and virtues of our lives in positive metaphors, we may care less about what other people think and become more thankful.  What’s more, they may begin to take notice of us as people to hang around.  They may wonder “Why does he always have that sly smirk on his face.”  And they may even go on to say things they pick up from that smile such as: “You know, I hear he has his own resort and buffet so no wonder!”

Don’t just look on the bright side using simlies in your life.  Use metaphors!
