This one could go on forever. I worked hard to not ramble and yet even still talked for almost ten minutes. I’ll paste my notes below so you can see all I originally planned to talk about. If you have any questions about the stuff I left out, don’t hesitate to ask in a comment or email.
Of all the stuff I’ve learned in the past two years, I think the importance of content and the “unlinked” commenters is the most valuable. I could spend all day telling you how to use Google and Technorati and the minions of other blog websites to your advantage but without relevant content and an audience, you are nothing to advertisers or to your readers.
Anyway, I say a lot. Thanks for listening all the way through. Next one I promise will be shorter with less “ummms” LOL. (Below are my notes)
Reflections on 2 Years of Blogging
Exactly 2 years ago I started blogging. Here are 3 key takeaways.
They worked for me, but not everyone may see them as equally valuable.
A) Not an instant gratification undertaking.
TrafficSubmitting to Social Media
Rankings
Comments from bloggers vs “unlinked” readers
Networking vs. promotion
Future date posts when the inspiration strikes. Don’t force posts
B) Multiple Blogs is good. Separate domains is non-negotiable.
Advertisers
Niches as opposed to categories
Scheduled days
C) The most valuable thing in blogging is the image of your name.
The only way to make money in blogging is through sponsored posts and advertising. Be careful however you don’t lose touch with the subculture of blogging of you will lose popularity.
I am now exploring Freelance Writing through blogging. I made a resume and am startig to explore that.
Meanwhile, I have 4 blogs I have a post schedule for:
PostcardsFromTheFunnyFarm.com
DamienRiley.com
DynamiteLessonplan.com
D-Cast (this podcast, a new endeavor)It has been a great 2 years of blogging. Here’s to a wonderful third in 2009.
I hope this information has helped you out in some way. I always appreciate your comments.

Happy 2 year anniversary and great tips! Trying to figure out myself if I need to create a separate blog for my own personal musings so I can keep this one focused on my business. Take care!
Thanks so much. If you want to chat about that second blog idea give me a holler … I’m running 4 blogs now and am doing OK.
Congrats on two wonderful blogging years!!! It’s amazing to see how you’ve expanded your blogging efforts and blogs throughout that time. Even though I’ve been blogging a while, I learned a lot from your podcast today. I see the point you made about “blogging for yourself vs. blogging for others”. I still kinda think I blog for myself because I’m not interested in making money with my blog and this past year has been a rough one and I haven’t had time to network, promote, visit too many blogs outside of my regular circle, etc., and my blog circulation and visitors have dropped incredibly. Some posts I write go completely uncommented, but I still write and maintain my blog because I like to do it. However, as a blogger, of course I like readers and comments! haha! I’m going to have to learn to use these diggs and stumbleupons and see what happens! Thanks for another great podcast! I’m really enjoying these things!!! You know there is that BlogRadio site, too, where you could host live shows and people can call in. You’d be great at that!
@Jessica Yes indeed that would be cool to try. Thanks for your nice comment and being so supportive in the past 2 years! Your blog is great ;)
