The dynamite teacher never forgets that serving families is what the pay is for. Teachers are not there to serve themselves or even the students per se. Teachers are there to serve the community through serving the families of their students.
I’ve been saying for years that when you teach you are really speaking to a much larger number than your class. Each kid goes home and shares what you said with someone, and so on. You are a public servant and responsible to the quality of society. Serving families is huge and something more teachers need to remember to do. This involves inviting families in to observe and help in the classroom. There should be reasonable boundaries of course so learning can occur, but the family is the cornerstone of the dynamite teacher.
