This step is great because you get to take kids “explicitly” through steps to get the answers. As you do so you are giving them the empowerment to score high on the Standards Tests or any other test they take.
You devise a list of steps, no more than 5, helping them to solve the particular problem. You model how you would do it then slowly release them to use the steps on their own. This becomes guided practice eventually. Here are some sample lessons.
