A lot of coping with life is about balance - your priorities have to include yourself as well as other people. Measure for measure. There's no point giving if it takes you over the line to where you can no longer receive or you have no energy to keep it up. People want for consistency more than grand gestures, I reckon, most of the time anyway. They want to know you're there, and that you are reliable - and part of being reliable is knowing where to draw the line. If you let people become to comfortable, they will start to take it for granted, and then just expect more. It's a bad cycle.
