Sounds like a pretty good idea. The strongest selling point for me was that you’ve actually done ‘teaching without paper.’
The only down side I see is that this could be a bit tech-dependent. That could be a hard sell with the administration, if the school doesn’t already have the equipment.
I agree with Norski
And wanted to add something.
If it is going to be a tech-dependent method, what would be its effects on children’s health??
@Norski: Copy machines break down a lot in schools. I’ve been teaching for 11 years. It’s really tough when you have no other way to teach. I feel this is the case for many. My goal is to develop habits that don’t require it. The a/v stuff is really helpful but not necessary. The white boards are great.
@Kuday: I have an LCD projector and a computer. They have no effect on health that I can see. Thanks for dropping by and commenting.
I hope this post convinces more teachers to go paperless – it kills me to see so much paper wasted that my son brings home each day. Sure, we can recycle it, but I know it would save the school so much money!
The only problem with using whiteboards instead of paper is the amount of markers that students will go through. In addition, erasable markers are very expensive. Do you think that this is less wasteful than using paper? If so, what advice do you have for the high cost?
@Beth: Good point. My immediate response is to say that the markers are less but if you were very sparing with paper, you might make a converse argument. To really answer this question requires some thinking outside the box which I will do and get back to you on.
@Beth: I wrote a comparison of cost using fixed variables. It’s at this url: http://www.dynamitelessonplan.com/cost-of-paper-vs-whiteboard-markers/
