Ten Reasons Roller Coasters are Good for You

Scream Roller Coaster
Have you ever sat and looked at pics of theme parks? It appears roller coasters are good for your body and mind. I have read a few articles indicating that folks with untreated heart conditions run a risk riding roller coasters. Nonetheless, the consensus out there seems to be that if you are in good health, roller coasters are good for you physically! What’s more, there are a lot of mental health benefits benefits of roller coasters that I have laid out below. NOTE: most these benefits can be achieved through a fast game of tennis or other intense, short physical activity.

  1. Other fears pale in comparison: For example, if you are having trouble with your boss, he’s nothing compared to facing the loop-de-loop!
  2. You escape life (if temporarily) and bring back stories from a theme park brochure.
  3. You feel accomplished and can blog better about rollercoaster theme parks.
  4. You relax beside something much bigger than yourself: Remember Leeann Womack’s song, I Hope You Dance: “I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean(Riddler’s revenge?).” Also, you’ll learn about theme parks safety.
  5. You see views that take your breath away (Then you drop 20 stories on Superman).
  6. Your heart gets pumpin.’
  7. You become less important and more creative.
  8. Prove you’re no baby you can put away the crib bedding.
  9. You become a spaceman breaking speed records.
  10. High altitudes, increased endorphines (alertness, well-being, happiness …)

So get on a roller coaster. What are you waiting for?

We went to my favorite amusement park the other day & I rode a roller coaster w/my 5 year old brother (haha, bet you didn’t know that about me!) It was his first time and I just loved seeing how much he was excited by it and loved it!

I always thought that I’m too old for this thing already. Guess this post had changed my mind. :)

I takeit you had a good time at Six Flags! I was waiting to see the roller coaster post :) So…all those reasons are pretty much why I don’t like the coasters, but I’m curious about the crib bedding. Is that some testosterone related thing? LOL

I tried the rollercoaster at the Edmonton mall once…I just about blacked out. It was fun at the end, but that feeling of just about fainting wasn’t very nice.

You make some good points, but until they make a roller coaster that goes in one straight, horizontal line…you can’t convince me to go for another ride. :D

Watching the kids’ faces of excitement is one of the benefits as well!

Glad to hear that Dunn! Make sure you take pictures when you ride! That would be an interesting file.

    Mr. Riley,

I came across your blog through Internet research for a paper I’m writing, which concerns the health benefits derived from amusement parks and amusement rides. Could you provide me with sources describing these benefits? Thank you.

@Steve: The untreated heart conditions link is my only source. The rest is my opinion.
