What Makes a Teacher Great?

In teacher college a mentor once told me:

The best behavior control strategy is a dynamite lesson plan.

I have pondered that as a sort of beacon of truth in everything I do as a teacher.  Being a dynamite teacher is my life ambition.  After nearly 11 years, I am hopefully a bit closer.

In this series I present and analyze the features of a “dynamite” teacher.  I wish to stress that I am not calling myself “dynamite,” though I think I do okay.  Instead I am presenting the ideals that a teacher striving to be “dynamite” should aim at.  Teaching is my job but it is more than that.  I hope teachers, parents and students all tune in to find out what I have observed and tested are traits of the dynamite teacher.
