It is election eve and I’ve been thinking about how the new President might affect education. He obviously will not have much money to pour into it, so we’ll have to hope for a “think outside the box” approach. Here’s a few things I hope from him (it appears to be Obama):
- Emphasis away from standardized testing.
- Focus on real life job and social skills.
- Attempts to attract and reward creative, innovative approaches to teaching.
Perhaps No Child Left Behind will fall away. The money we spend on the test booklets alone could buy a lot of guitars and recorders for the kids! But, we’ll have to see what happens.
