There’s a lesson for business and communication in this sign. The Cocky Bull is on a highway for truckers and travelers. Therefore they cater to that in their slogan. Can you imagine if they were catering to surfers? Miners? I think you get the idea. We need to reach out to the people in our sphere of influence, whether they are our “choice” or not. I think this is especially true in writing to a blog or website audience. Get to know who visits your blog and write to them.

I seem to be commenting a lot on your blog this morning, Damien. I’ve almost filled your recent comments widget! But I did feel as though I had to comment on this post, as it engages in a discussion I’ve been having with myself through my morning pages. I’ve been trying out different stuff with my blogging recently, and I’m not sure if those that regularly read my blog are liking it (I so appreciated your encouraging comment this morning – thank you!). However, I am enjoying myself so much, that I’m kind of loath to stop doing it. I enjoy experimenting and playing with new things and, in many ways, my blog is my playground, and I’m kind of uncomfortable playing according to someone else’s rules. I want to go up the slide the wrong way, hang upside down on the climbing frame, and spin myself dizzy on the swings :-)
I think there is a lot to be said for selfish blogging, as long as you never forget that your words are being read by the world at large. I don’t know… What do you think?

For your rank and monetization to be worth anything you should get to know the demographic reading your blog and write to them. If it’s an online diary, then that stuff doesn’t matter as much. Does that help? Your blog is great as is, but if a person (not necessarily you) wants more readers, then that person should sketch frameworks that appeal to their wants and needs a bit. It’s more of a technique than a strategy the way I see it.
Since I do write basically an online diary, I don’t worry much about writing "to" anyone. I write so that I’m satisfied with it. I think as long as it is something that interests you, you should go ahead and write about it. No reader will like all of your blog posts. That’s what makes us all unique!
