Ok, so everybody’s talking about Dave Letterman’s infidelity. If you type his name in a search you get literally hundreds of serious news stories on the topic. Dave Letterman has been a hero of mine for about two decades. He’s up there with Walt Disney, Rod Serling, and Ray Kroc. He is definitely one who creates and innovates with his life and his art. Having said this, the good stuff I feel for him took a dive the other night when I heard his announce he had sex with multiple women on his show. It was a real let down for me.
Dave has made fun of anyone who had a fall from grace. I remember he was particularly ruthless with Bill Clinton. I personally appreciate his public apologies and addressing the situation in his monologues. At the same time, I feel mistakes like these should be kept private and the apologies should go on either at a press conference or out of the public eye.
I feel Dave jokes about his extra-marital sex because he is saying in essence to America: “Come on, it’s not a crime, I’m just a red-blooded guy who gave in.” As much as I like Dave, I resent that message. Am I not red-blooded? I would NEVER cheat on my wife. I think if he was truly sorry, he’d keep from mentioning it on his show. What do you think of Dave Letterman’s affairs?

I think his talking about it on the show was simply a way to take charge of the situation and control it. If HE didn’t announce it, someone else would have and he would have been on the defensive — answering questions and looking looking like he had been caught.
While I can’t condone his behavior, it was a pretty brilliant way to defuse the bomb
