Writing, Traffic and Finding Middle Ground

How many people are reading is not much different from how many people are watching.  As a blogger I often find myself to be an insatiable traffic-aholic.  I visit my Google Analytics hoping each time there will be a spike up, a validation that my words have been read or maybe even enjoyed.  I know this is ridiculous but I want to make sure my words are read, doesn’t everyone?  But who really can drive fans to her/his own blog?  In the past there have been a handful of posts where new people came by and actually became readers.  I am thankful to have regular readers of my Postcards blog as well as this one.  But why do I need it so much?  I look at people who don’t concern themselves with traffic sometimes and wonder if they are better off just blogging.

All I ever wanted to do with my blogging was to write and be read.  It would be ideal if the system tools were all in place to where I continued in that habit as traffic and income flowed freely in response.  I believe it’s possible but elusive.  In the house of a blogger would it have to mean leather home theater seating or a straight-backed chair no cable? I know there should be middle ground. That’s what I would like to represent with my blog.  I think we as bloggers know though that it is impossible to just stop marketing and expect the audience to remain. What do you think about monitoring blog traffic?
