Blog Mentoring and its Effectiveneness

Mentoring is a tradition that goes back to ancient Rome and prior. Aristotle and Plato both were mentors and they conveyed the concept quite vividly as crucial to higher education. I’ve been able to scaffold that concept into blogging and since I started doing it over a year ago it has changed my entire perspective for the better.

I am a blog mentor and I owe it to Michelle MacPhearson. I downloaded her free ebook called Social Media Daily where I learned tons about networks like Facebook, StumbleUpon, and De.licio.us. Mostly, I learned the value of networking in increasing blog traffic and hence blog income. Download it and read it to boost your knowledge of social media. I don’t know Michelle personally but recently I had an SEO question I emailed her and she responded with a really insightful solution. What an honor, thank you Michelle. Anyway, in that ebook she suggests mentoring a new blogger as a means to gain a backlink. Let me tell you that it gains you quite a bit more!

A while back I wrote an article I’m proud of that talks about why and how mentoring works. I touched on what I feel a mentor’s role should be. Don’t ever make the mistake of thinking a mentor is a “boss.” A mentor stands alongside you and learns with you. He/she is much more of a coach than a boss and quite often more of a team-mate. I can say I have learned as much if not more from my mentees as I have shared with them.

So how do you get a blog mentor? Ask someone to mentor you.

How do you mentor? Ask someone if you can mentor them.
