Organization is contagious. I woke up with a task to change the oil in my Jeep. Tomorrow we are going on a day trip to Laguna Beach and I wanted to give the engine a “drink” before we go. As I started getting a space cleared in the garage to get to my tools and materials, I began thinking about doing something in the space I was clearing. I thought about a podcast or possible recording a new song. Being faithful to do one chore opened up inspiration to do another (and a much more fun one at that). Of course I should say here that it is necessary to do the important chores first and then try doing the newly inspired ones. We all can get distracted with what we could be doing before we finish what we should. How many people are aware that good planning and doing ordinary tasks often turns to gold chains.
Although cleaning up the garage a bit wasn’t even part of my oil changing chore, it had a contagious effect and made me want to clear more space (there is quite a bit of rubble in my garage right now). I’m not preaching chores here. Instead, I am saying be aware that following one task at a time can open up new avenues for creativity and inspiration. Do you keep a task list? If not I highly recommend trying it. It is my best tool for staying productive.
